One of the most common RotorLib CGF® applications is crew trainers. RotorLib CGF is the only COTS product in the market which is suitable for these modern applications:
- Door gunner trainer
- Winch operator trainer
- Load master simulator
- Marshalling simulator
The main difference of crew training applications from flight training applications is that their main focus is not the pilot but a helicopter or ground crew member. Fidelity of the flight model is not the primary concern for crew training applications. Instead, an easy to use and practical system to fly the helicopter is required. RTDynamics offers two different solutions:
1. Using an easy to fly helicopter model: RotorLib CGF includes an easy to fly helicopter model. This model is more stable than a real helicopter and certain pilot tasks are performed by the autopilot so that the work load on the pilot is as little as possible. With such a model you can have one instructor at the instructor station who oversees the training scenario and at the same time flies the helicopter. The instructor can simply leave the joystick, change settings in the simulation and return flying. A dedicated person is not required to fly the helicopter.
2. Using completely autonomous helicopters: RotorLib CGF provides a helicopter control technology which allows you to issue high level commands such as moveTo and land. Using the high level commands as building blocks, you can design a completely autonomous helicopter model for your training application. For example, in a marshalling simulator, the helicopter can respond to the marshalling commands automatically. Instructor would not need to fly the helicopter at all, he can simply concentrate on the student's performance.
